In an all-Australian final, John Millman has easily defeated Andrew Whittington 6-2, 6-2, to claim the Hua Hin ATP Challenger Tour title. With the win, Millman collects $21,600 and 110 ranking points.
Millman is on the comeback trail from injury where he saw his ranking blow out to 235 in late August after having reached a career high of 60 back in May 2016. The Australian underwent groin surgery in February and should now see his ranking move from 165 up to around 134. Millman will be looking to close in on a top 100 ranking to see him gain automatic entry into the Australian Open, although he may need to rely on a wildcard to take a main draw spot in January at the Open.
For Whittington, it was a good week where he reached a final for the first time in 2017 and will see his ranking move from 290 to around 225, still some way off his career high of 160 reached on 20 March 2017.
Next up for the Australian players is the Australian Open wildcard playoff which sees 16 players invited to compete in Melbourne in mid-December.
