John Alexander Exits Parliament – Next Is?

November 12, 2017 by Rob Keating

John Alexander must now renounce his British citizenship and then face a by-election to take up his seat in Parliament.

John Alexander resigned from parliament on Friday following another dual citizenship revelation. The former member for Bennelong said that he is most likely a dual-British citizen by descent because his father was born in the UK and was most unlikely to have renounced his British citizenship before the birth of John.

“I have always believed that I am Australian and solely Australian,” Mr Alexander said at a press conference on Saturday.

Alexander will now be contesting a by-election as soon as he has officially renounced his British citizenship. The by-election is expected to be held before Christmas.

With the government now down by two seats it will make for an interesting final two sitting weeks this year. Labor will be doing all they can to introduce chaos into the parliament and take control of the agenda.
